Treats and Sweets

When you are heading out for a week or weekend of camping, what are your favorite go-to meals? Are you limited to what your family can make or are there endless possibilities with your amenities? I don’t know about you, but good food is a must when I’m on a trip with friends and family. It is a great way to relax, have fun and connect with each other while enjoying a delicious meal!

There are creative apps online that provide many food possibilities to enhance your meal planning. Options range from a quick 3-ingredient meal to a more involved full course meal with many quick-tips. For example, a great breakfast meal is omelets in a bag. You can pre-cut vegetables and protein at home prior to your trip if you have a cold fridge. When you are ready to use them, simply crack a few eggs into the bag, reseal and scramble. Once combined, you can add bags to a boiling pot of water. If you have multiple people, you can make each with different additives and then cook at the same time. In just a few minutes, you have a delicious omelet ready.

Many lunch and dinners can be cooked in tin foil over a camp fire. This is a great choice whether you are tent camping or have a full Class A kitchen. One of my personal favorites is a low country crab boil but grilled in wrapped tin foil. You can simply add your potatoes, corn, sausage, butter and seasonings to begin. Once your vegetables are cooked, you can add the shrimp last since it does not take nearly as long to cook. Another great option would be to grill the fish if you happened to have a great catch that day! There is nothing better than enjoying the fish that you took the time to catch, clean and cook. Desserts can also be easily made with fruit and chocolate over a fire. You can never go wrong with an all-time classic such as s’mores.

There are so many food options while you’re camping. Dinner may consist of a simpler meal or expand into an extravagant feast, depending on your cooking abilities and conveniences. Some RV’s consist of a small fridge while others have a full kitchen. Many people enjoy taking a grill on their trips, while others may enjoy building their own camp fire to cook and stay warm. Camping can be anything that you want it to be, just depending on your preference. Enjoying your trip is what is most important!
