How to Choose the Right Family RV
There are many types of RVs and each offers their own advantages and disadvantages depending on your unique needs.
For the average family of four, certain RVs are better choices than others. The best options would probably include:
- Class A Motorhomes
- Class C Motorhomes
- Fifth Wheels
- Travel Trailers
Below, we’ll describe some of the advantages and disadvantages of each of these types of family RVs to make it easier when choosing the right RV for you and your family.
Family RV Option 1: Class A Motorhomes
Let’s start with Class A motorhomes. These are the largest and most luxurious motorhomes, typically offering more amenities than any other type of RV on the list. However, as you might imagine, they’re also the most expensive.
Another important consideration is that they can be hard to maneuver on the road relative to the other options. You would probably want to tow a small car with you in case you want to leave the campground to check out other nearby attractions.
Family RV Option 2: Class C Motorhomes
Another RV type that is good for families is the Class C motorhome. They are cheaper than Class A while still offering a good amount of space and amenities. They are also easier to drive than the Class A option. This is a better option for frequent travelers who enjoy shorter trips.
Family RV Option 3: Fifth Wheels
Fifth Wheel RVs generally offer the second most space and amenities of the RVs on this list, depending on which model you are looking at. They can also be pretty expensive compared to the others. They generally require a large truck with a fifth wheel hitch to tow. These are easier to maneuver than the similar Travel Trailer because of how they are hitched to the truck, and thus are more stable and easier to back up.
Fifth Wheel RVs allow you the option of leaving your RV at the campsite and using your truck to explore other nearby attractions.
Family RV Option 4: Travel Trailers
Travel Trailers are similar to Fifth Wheels, but are smaller and lighter. Because of these characteristics, Travel Trailers can be towed by trucks, SUVs and even most full-sized sedans. Although they are smaller, they still have a good amount of space and can accommodate up to four people. Generally, they are the least expensive option on this list. They do, however, take more skill to tow compared to the fifth wheel and are less stable on the road.
Which Family RV Option Is Best For You and Your Family?
All in all, RVing is a fantastic way to share time and make unforgettable memories with your family! There’s not a bad option to choose from the list above—the choice just comes down to your financial resources, the type of trips you intend to take and what type of vehicle you want to use to explore the area when you get to your RV destination.
No matter which of these options you choose, you can look forward to creating new memories with the people you love!
